About Harriett
Teaching algebra began for me as a way to clarify complex ideas for peers during my undergraduate studies.
After 7 years of instruction, I now work as a PhD candidate in Mathematics at the University of Michigan. Helping students is rewarding work.
I have supported many individuals from middle school to college who found math intimidating.
My approach centers on building core concepts first before moving into repetitive drills.
Tracking progress against clear goals keeps the work moving forward. Specific feedback helps students gain real confidence in their abilities.
I prefer to stay grounded in the practical side of mathematics. It is interesting to see how these patterns unfold in real life.

Can you imagine seeing algebra as a language rather than just a set of rules? Pacing is the most important element when I explain linear functions or the quadratic formula.
I provide a short diagnostic in the first session to identify exactly where your understanding currently rests. This allows me to adjust the plan based on your unique academic background.
My time spent working on a degree at the University of Michigan influences how I break down word problems. I often find that focusing on the logic helps eliminate the usual anxiety around math.
