About Filipe

I graduated from EPFL in Physics and I did my doctorate in Physics (Gravitational Waves) at the University of Geneva. I had the chance to work in organizations or for extraordinary projects, like CERN, the Brazilian space research center (INPE) or for LIGO (USA) which won the Nobel Prize in 2017. During my studies, i have given tutoring courses for pupils from 5th to 9th and gymnasium, and some courses for a group in vocational training (CFC). Subsequently, in the academic world, I was a lecturer in electrodynamics (1st year of physics) in Geneva and in the United States, general physics for 1st year of physics and engineers.

Firstly, I address myself to the 5 th students at the gymnasium. For higher levels, you have to see if I have access to the necessary equipment, because these courses require a little more preparation. I am also a diving instructor and my method is similar. It must be said that I had more courses in diving education than during my scientific training. I would say that I am fairly structured. I always start by assessing knowledge, starting too high or too low can be disgusting or boring respectively. In general, I follow the book or the courses that the student follows so as not to create confusion, but if I have to give examples, I use my knowledge and I base myself on the preferences of the student. For example in a course on the air, if he plays an instrument, I will talk about the instruments and explain how they create the waves etc. If the student encounters difficulties, I invent new, simpler exercises. The idea is to cut the level into simpler steps. Science may be more rigorous and structured than other subjects, but there is always room for creativity and information can be reformulated in several ways. In summary, I always adapt to the level and preferences of the student, I follow his course but I give different examples from those he has seen in class, and I create intermediate steps if necessary.
