About Karen
I am an award-winning professional actor and acting coach with over 45 years of experience in television, film, theater and commercials. I am a three-time Joseph Jefferson Award recipient for my work as an actor in Chicago theater.
I currently coach actors working in the New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago markets, giving me an ongoing connection to the demands actors face in today’s professional industry.
Throughout my career, I have worked both as a professional actor and as a coach, helping actors from beginners to seasoned professionals strengthen their craft, prepare for auditions and approach their work with greater confidence and freedom.
I understand that every actor brings something different to the work. I provide a supportive, professional environment where actors can take risks, make discoveries and develop work that is truthful, specific and uniquely their own.
I also bring an understanding of the business side of an acting career and can offer guidance on professional presentation, audition material, headshots, résumés and navigating the industry.

My approach to acting coaching is highly individualized. I believe there is no single way to act and no single technique that works for every actor. My goal is to help each actor discover what is truthful, specific, alive and uniquely their own.
I work with actors from beginners to seasoned professionals. Depending on the actor’s needs, a session may focus on audition or self-tape preparation, monologues, cold reading, acting technique, character development, script analysis, or preparation for television, film, theater and commercial work.
A typical lesson begins by identifying exactly what the actor wants to accomplish. We then work directly with the material, exploring the character, circumstances, relationships, intentions and choices while keeping the work spontaneous and truthful. My feedback is practical and specific, and I adapt my coaching to the individual rather than imposing one rigid method.
What sets me apart is more than 45 years of professional experience in the entertainment industry. I am an award-winning professional actor and a three-time Joseph Jefferson Award recipient for my work in Chicago theater. I bring the perspective of someone who understands both the craft of acting and the realities of the professional business.
I also offer career and business guidance for actors, including headshots, résumés, audition material, professional presentation and navigating the acting business.
