Teaching Approach and Techniques:
As a tutor, I specialize in guiding students through the writing process, whether they need help developing ideas or refining a final draft. I focus on working with students who already have material they want to improve or those facing challenges with starting or completing writing assignments. My approach emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and providing actionable feedback to help students sharpen their writing and critical thinking skills.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Assessment: Begin by discussing the student's assignment requirements, goals, and any challenges they’re facing.
2. Review and Feedback: For completed drafts, I conduct a detailed review, offering constructive feedback on structure, clarity, grammar, and content. For students starting from scratch, we brainstorm ideas, create outlines, and develop a plan of action.
3. Guidance and Revision: Work through revisions step by step, focusing on specific areas like thesis development, paragraph coherence, or citation accuracy.
4. Next Steps: Summarize key takeaways, outline additional improvements, and suggest strategies for independent work before the next session.
What Sets Me Apart:
- Award-nominated writing professional with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in English from Boston University.
- Extensive experience editing and revising papers across a variety of subjects and disciplines.
- Expertise in helping students break down assignments, develop strong arguments, and improve clarity and coherence in their writing.
- Supportive and student-centered approach, empowering learners to take ownership of their writing while building confidence.
