A tutoring always starts from a question or a piece of material that is not clear to the person in question.
After this I start to get a sence whether the person has the correct prior knowledge to understand this piece. If not, I will be happy to explain!
In the lesson itself I will make sure that the person agrees with my explanation. I let him / her draw conclusions that I later confirm or correct. I make sure there is a general understanding.
I always end my tutorials with a short summary.
I often ask a student if he / she can scan the course and forward it via e-mail.
The purpose of this is:
- Understanding what the teacher expects of a student
- Understanding how the subject matter is delineated.
- if necessary, briefly repeat the subject matter myself.
If I have insight into these things, I can adapt my tutoring to the needs of the student in question. He / she will then receive a lesson fully adapted to his / her questions and difficulties. In order to take optimal account of what the 'real' teacher expects from you, I ask (although I certainly do not require this) to also scan any tests. For example, I know the teacher’s question.
