About Matthews

I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where I spent the better part of a decade. Spanish was and still is my first language, however moving to the US and attending high school and college here has given me profound knowledge in English, to the point where I have even lost my accent, making my lessons easy to understand while still providing that authenticity that you can only obtain by getting taught Spanish by a native speaker. Unrelated but I am also a standup comedian, so I think you’ll find the way I teach interesting and engaging instead of boring and repetitive.

About the lesson

Why learn Spanish from someone who’s only ever learned from a textbook? I have lived and breathed the Spanish culture myself and speak it everyday consistently with friends and family. I have a vocabulary-first approach, focusing on building lexicon and fluidity before grammatical structure, this allows people to immediately begin understanding Spanish in the world around them when spoken, and further motivates people to continue their acquisition of the Spanish Language.
