About Kim
I am interested in applying for a high school teaching position or tutor position based in Somerset West. After completing my B.A Human Resources degree in 2011 at the University of Stellenbosch, I decided to enter the business world and was offered a position at Capitec Bank in the Human Resources department. I had the privilege to be part of this dynamic financial institution for two years as a Talent Sourcing Agent and later promoted to HR Consultant.
In 2013, I was offered a position at Shimansky Jewellery as an HR Consultant and assistant to the HR Director. The three years I experienced in the corporate world taught me to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, but I soon realized that this was not the career path which I would like to pursue for the rest of my life. In 2014 I decided to follow my true passion which is teaching and completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education. This is my fifth year of teaching and currently I am working at Montgomery and Miller Academy. I am appointed to educate the following subjects; Economic and Management Sciences (Grade 8 and 9), Business Studies (Grade 10-12) and Life Orientation (Gr 8-12).
My time in the corporate world allows me to teach from a unique perspective, with the ability to apply practical experience to the theory – a gap few educators can breach. I believe this skill set is invaluable in the education of our nation’s future leaders. I have also learned that by giving a little bit of yourself for a greater cause is a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. It is my true passion to help and teach children from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. I look forward to any challenge and to make the best of any situation whilst keeping a positive outlook on life and all it has to offer. I believe that loyalty and integrity are essential values in building a good character of any child. Thank you for considering my application. I make use of the following teaching methods: First when I start with a new chapter or module I always test the learners knowledge to see if he/she has a basic understanding of what we will be discussing in class. Just to test and see if he as prior knowledge about the topic. We read and study the chapter together, homework is given and maybe even a class assignment. After discussing and understanding the specific chapter, revision takes place and repetition on the work we covered. Once the learner feels confident we write a test to see how well he/she understood the chapter and if we have to do more revision.
