About Hanlin
I teach Chinese in a way that helps students actually use the language with confidence—whether they’re preparing for an important exam or getting ready to live in a Chinese-speaking environment like Singapore or Malaysia. Over the past year of one-on-one teaching, I’ve seen how much faster students improve when lessons are personal and focused on real-life communication instead of endless vocabulary drills. My goal is simple: help each student feel more confident, more connected, and ready to thrive wherever Chinese takes them.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
My methodology is a blend of structured learning and adaptive conversation, ensuring lessons are both effective and engaging.
Needs-First Assessment: Every student is unique. I begin by understanding your specific goal (e.g., scoring an 'A' on the HSK 3 exam, or feeling confident ordering food and taking public transport in Singapore). The entire learning plan is then customized from day one.
Contextual Learning: Instead of rote memorization, I teach words and grammar within the context of real-life scenarios. You'll learn how to introduce yourself, navigate a market, or understand a menu, making the knowledge stick because it's immediately useful.
Interactive & Conversational Focus: My lessons are built around dialogue. We will spend a significant portion of our time speaking and listening, which is the fastest way to build fluency and overcome the fear of making mistakes. I create a supportive environment where mistakes are seen as valuable learning steps.
Practical Cultural Integration: Language and culture are inseparable. I integrate essential cultural tips and social norms into our lessons, preparing you not just to speak, but to interact appropriately and confidently in places like Singapore.
A Typical Lesson Plan (60-Minute Session)
A typical session with me is dynamic and structured to maximize your progress:
Warm-up & Review (10 mins): A casual conversation to practice previous lesson material. We'll quickly go over any homework questions.
Introduction of New Topic (15 mins): I introduce a new theme (e.g., "Directions and Transportation") using clear explanations, visual aids, and real-world examples.
Guided Practice & Drills (15 mins): We work through targeted exercises together, focusing on the new vocabulary and grammar patterns. This is a safe space to practice and ask questions.
Practical Application & Role-Play (15 mins): This is the most important part. We simulate a real-life scenario, like asking for directions to a MRT station or having a simple conversation with a local. This builds practical confidence.
Wrap-up & Goal Setting (5 mins): We summarize the key takeaways, and I assign personalized practice tasks to reinforce what we've learned.
What Truly Sets Me Apart
While many tutors focus solely on textbooks, I offer a comprehensive learning experience defined by:
Proven Success for Real-World Goals: My direct experience preparing students for life in Singapore means I teach the actual language and cultural nuances you will use, not just theoretical textbook Chinese.
A Focus on Confidence Building: My ultimate goal is to make you an independent and confident communicator. I prioritize practical speaking skills that empower you to handle everyday situations from day one.
Highly Personalized & Adaptive Lessons: Your lesson plan is yours alone. I continuously adapt the content and pace based on your progress and feedback, ensuring we are always working efficiently toward your specific goal.

Great teacher with a great personality but most importantly helped me and pushed me to continue learning even when it got difficult! 謝謝老師！
Understandable and very adaptable to others' learning curve. He taught me Chinese, and I managed to pick it up within 2 months, and could do basic communication. He is for sure trustworthy.
