About Mark
I've been a full-time graduate acting teacher for over twelve years, although I've been teaching auditioning for over twenty years. I've coached hundreds of professional actors, graduate students, undergraduate students and professional child actors. I'm best known for being the first person to audition Cameron Diaz, an untrained actress, for The Mask, and identifying her potential, guiding her through the audition process and hiring her. Other actors I've coached have booked series regular roles, guest roles, lead roles in plays, admission into college theatre programs and have received graduate degrees. I've directed plays and musicals, and my expertise includes coaching how to act a song. I studied with Uta Hagen in New York from 1984-86, and I'm a member of CSA, SAG/AFTRA, AEA and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I was a keynote speaker for the Southeastern Theatre Conference (Arlington) in 2003. I studied commercial acting with the late Joan See, and I've directed hundreds of New York and Los Angeles actors in commercial auditions.

I have taught Uta Hagen's approach to MFA actors as well as undergraduate actors. I've coached auditioning both face-to-face and via Skype. I've also viewed taped auditions and provided feedback. My approach is primarily Stanislavsky-based, but I've integrated a variety of techniques including Michael Chekhov, Maria Ouspenskaya, Practical Aesthetics, commercial acting, improvisation, and sketch comedy.
