My Approach as a Tutor
As a current 8th grade ELA teacher, my tutoring approach is student-centered, structured, and engaging. I believe students learn best when they feel confident, supported, and actively involved in their learning. I use a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent application to ensure students not only understand concepts but can apply them independently.
Teaching Methods & Techniques
I incorporate strategies such as modeling (I do), collaborative practice (we do), and independent work (you do). I also use questioning techniques to build critical thinking, along with real-world connections to make learning meaningful. For English learners, I focus on vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, and structured writing support. I differentiate instruction based on each student’s needs, learning style, and pace.
A Typical Lesson
Each session begins with a quick warm-up or review to activate prior knowledge. I then introduce the objective and model the skill or concept. Next, we practice together through guided activities before the student works independently with my support. I end each lesson with a brief review, feedback, and a clear next step to track progress and growth.
What Sets Me Apart
What makes me unique is my experience in the classroom and my ability to balance structure with creativity. I create a calm, organized learning environment while still making lessons engaging and interactive. I focus heavily on building student confidence, breaking down complex skills into manageable steps, and celebrating growth. My goal is not just improvement, but helping students feel successful and capable.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are ideal for middle school students, especially grades 6–8, as well as English learners (ESL) and students who need support in reading, writing, or comprehension. I also work with beginners to intermediate learners who want to improve their English for school or everyday communication.
