About Monica
Having worked as a museum educator at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, held a number of cultural positions at renowned institutions such as the Centre Pompidou/Musée d’art moderne in Paris and the cultural department of the French Embassy in the UAE, I am now eager to bring my passion for teaching to the virtual realm. In addition to my interest in inspiring students of all levels with an elasticity of thought, an openness of spirit and a grain of aphoristic trenchancy, both my Bachelor’s in archaeology and art history, as well as my Master’s degree in art history and museum studies from the Ecole du Louvre and Sorbonne University (Paris IV) further bolster my qualifications and aptitude to make a substantial contribution to your learning experience.

Are the foundations of our culture creatively constructed by a multitude of builders or are they, conversely, the result of a biological evolution? Why do art historians want works of art to have an identifiable author the way cops want crimes to have an identifiable culprit? Better yet, why do they continue to suspect the very concept of author the way criminologists suspect the notion of responsibility?
Book a lesson with me to solve these enigmas by taking a closer look at the fundamental approaches that have been used to evaluate artworks by influential figures throughout the key chronological stages of history—and understand how these methodologies are still evolving and shaping our cultural infrastructures today. As we embark on this exhilarating journey through the different ways of seeing, we will gradually transition towards an interdisciplinary approach that allows us to examine other interrelated fields, such as museum studies (museology); digital art (NFTs, digital video art, internet art…etc.); visual studies; aesthetics (philosophy of art); decolonization studies; and a myriad of other contemporary issues that continue to dominate our cultural landscape.
Learners will demonstrate their capacity to articulate the historical development of art history as a discipline. In addition to that, they will equally acquire a deep-seated understanding of the historical foundations and systematic methodological skills required to address current issues in art historical scholarship and other deeply interrelated fields. And finally, students will learn to identify, differentiate and critically assess a wide range of art historical approaches and apply selected methodologies to the analysis of any work of art belonging to the art canon - through the acknowledgment of a much broader scope of aesthetic and sociopolitical influence.
