About Antonia

Hi, I am Antonia! I'm truly passionate about sharing the beauty of Chinese with kids like you! I became a teacher because I believe learning Mandarin shouldn't be boring—instead, it should be full of games, stories, and fun. As a trained educator for young learners, I know how to make tricky pinyin, characters, and conversations feel easy and exciting. You can trust that I'm patient, supportive, and here to cheer you on every step of the way—no pressure, just progress and joy! Whether we meet in Sydney CBD, online, or at your home, I'll bring my professional training and love for teaching to help you build confidence, speak smoothly, and fall in love with Mandarin. Let's start this amazing learning journey together!

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is centered on creating a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate learning environment tailored specifically for primary school students (ages 6-12), whether they are complete Mandarin beginners or looking to improve their existing skills in pinyin, character recognition, oral communication, or basic reading. Drawing on my formal training from a top Normal University in China and my Chinese Teaching Certificate, I adopt student-centered teaching techniques that align with young learners’ cognitive habits—instead of rigid rote memorization, I integrate interactive games, colorful visual aids (such as picture cards and character puzzles), storytelling, and real-life scenario simulations (e.g., role-playing daily conversations like greeting others, talking about food, or describing their hobbies). As a TEM-8 holder, I can provide clear bilingual support when needed to help students understand tricky concepts, but I prioritize Mandarin immersion to build their listening and speaking confidence over time.
A typical lesson lasts 45 to 60 minutes—this duration is carefully chosen to match primary students’ attention spans, with a 5-minute break halfway through for younger learners to stay focused and motivated. I also customize lesson plans based on each student’s learning pace and goals: for beginners, I start with pinyin fundamentals and simple character writing through playful activities; for students with basic skills, I focus on expanding their vocabulary, improving oral fluency, and introducing basic Chinese culture (e.g., traditional festivals, children’s rhymes) to make learning more meaningful.
While my formal tutoring experience is growing, my background as a certified teacher from a Normal University has equipped me with systematic knowledge of primary education methodologies, classroom management, and how to adapt teaching to young learners’ needs. I am passionate about making Mandarin learning accessible and enjoyable, and I prioritize positive reinforcement—celebrating small progress to boost students’ interest and confidence in learning Chinese.
My lessons are exclusively designed for primary school students (ages 6-12) in Sydney: this includes kids who want to learn Mandarin as a second language, heritage learners looking to connect with their cultural roots, or students preparing for basic Chinese proficiency tests. I offer flexible lesson formats to suit families’ needs—face-to-face sessions in Sydney CBD, online classes via video call, or home visits within the Sydney metro area.
