About Fiona

I am a BC-certified elementary teacher with experience teaching diverse learners across the primary and intermediate grades. I am passionate about creating positive learning experiences where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities.
As a classroom teacher, I have experience supporting students with a wide range of strengths and learning needs. I understand that every child learns differently, and I take the time to get to know each student and determine the strategies that work best for them.

I strive to make tutoring encouraging, engaging, and low-pressure while still providing purposeful instruction and meaningful progress. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident and capable than when they arrived.

I hold a Bachelor of Education from UBC and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from KPU.

As a BC-certified elementary teacher, I take a supportive, student-centred approach to tutoring. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, successful, and actively involved in their learning. I adapt my teaching to each student’s strengths, needs, interests, and learning style while building confidence and independence.

My lessons typically begin with a short check-in and review of previous learning, followed by focused instruction and guided practice. I use clear modelling, hands-on activities, games, visuals, and real-world examples to make concepts engaging and accessible. As students become more confident, I gradually move toward independent practice and application.

What sets me apart is my experience as an elementary classroom teacher. I am familiar with the BC curriculum and understand how to identify learning gaps, differentiate instruction, and break challenging concepts into manageable steps. I also have experience supporting students with a wide range of learning needs and abilities, including English language learners.

I offer personalized support for elementary students in Grades 1–7, with a focus on reading, writing, and mathematics. Tutoring can include strengthening foundational skills, supporting current classroom learning, filling learning gaps, or providing additional challenge and enrichment.
