As a reading tutor or teacher, I inquire what the student's problem and how to do they feel about his or her circumstance. I inquire what is their interest in the area of reading & how do they like to learn in a visual, oral, or hands on mode ? It is critical info. to how one learns when teaching in a tutoring session. Last, I assess to pinpoint the learner's strength and weakness so the instructional meets the students needs for growth. I encourage the student's efforts to promote confidence, along with model the skills for them to do in a tutoring session. Last, I check in to see if they can perform the skill independently.
