About CJ

Hi! I’m CJ, a certified Mandarin tutor from Taiwan, now based in the U.S.
I help learners speak Mandarin naturally—and understand how language reflects cultural thinking.
With me, you’ll not only say things correctly, but also use Mandarin meaningfully and appropriately across contexts.

■ My Credentials & Teaching Experience
• Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language
• Certified by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education
• 8+ years of experience teaching adults in universities, corporate programs, and 1-on-1 online lessons
• Students from beginner to advanced, across the U.S., Europe, and Asia

■ Teaching with Cultural Awareness & Real-World Purpose
Language is more than just words or grammar—it’s how we connect with others. I believe learners should not only speak Mandarin correctly, but also appropriately—knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.

■ My teaching focuses on helping students
• Understand how Mandarin works—and why
• Communicate in a way that’s clear, respectful, and contextually appropriate
• Develop cultural fluency, not just linguistic accuracy
• Use Mandarin not just to speak, but to build real human connections—it is a bridge between people.

■ How I Design Lessons That Work
Every lesson is structured, flexible, and rooted in real life. Here's how:
• Solid Foundations with Practical Application
I use well-designed, pedagogically sound textbooks to help students build core skills in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
• Authentic, Real-Life Materials
Lessons are enriched with real-world content such as videos, news articles, signs, ads, and social media language—so learners don’t just study the language, but truly understand how people use it.
• Goal-Oriented, Task-Based Activities
From expressing opinions and writing emails to engaging in natural conversations, students apply what they learn through purposeful, real-world tasks.

My goal: to help you use Mandarin accurately, appropriately, and confidently in real-life settings.
Whether you're preparing for a test or just want to have better conversations, I design lessons that match your needs and goals.
