I believe learning to read is the most difficult cognitive task faced by children. My lessons are based on the latest scientific research and are consistent with the findings of the National Reading Panel as articulated in its report of April 2000.
I specialize in multi-sensory techniques (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities are trained simultaneously) and incorporate phonics, reading, handwriting, and spelling in my lessons. I believe in a word-analysis approach in which children are explicitly taught phonics and English orthography, and how to use this knowledge to help them read and spell accurately. A word-analysis approach requires the use of decodable text. Phonetic readers present words according to sound patterns, which facilitates the application and reinforcement of word-analysis skills.
