Fundamentals—
- Modern Chess Openings (introduction to the opening, e4, d4, c4, sidelines)
- Rook endgame fundamentals, King and pawn endgames, Zugzwang
- Middle game concepts, studies of master games from Fischer, Petrosian, Kasparov, Carlsen, recent Candidates tournament highlights
- Attacking ideas, defending ideas, the world championship matches of Tal / Botvinnik and Karpov / Kasparov
- daily chess puzzles from my personal collection & taken from the works of Sam Loyd, Kasparyan, etc.
Personalized review—
- review any concepts, puzzles, games that the student reviewed on their own that they would like insight into
- review at least 2-3 of their most recent games and study side lines and pivotal decisions
- teach students how to use an engine like Stockfish to help them prepare more confidently for openings in tournament games and to learn from their mistakes in previous games (post game analysis)
- exercise new ideas—take what we study and apply it with occasional blitz practice games to lighten things up— chess is a game, we should remember to have fun!
