About Sophie
I am a First Class MA Chinese Honours graduate from the University of Edinburgh, and have also studied at Fudan University in Shanghai and National Chengchi University in Taipei as a BACS Scholar, spending 6 months living in Taiwan. After experiencing language classes across three different institutions, I understand what makes an effective and interesting class, and want to support my students to make real tangible progress in the areas that they care about the most! Alongside teaching, I am a musician and perform regularly in venues across Edinburgh, and am passionate about literature, art and the outdoors.

I believe that following a student's passion or area of interest is the strongest motivator and fastest route to success on the language learning journey, and so each lesson is tailored to the individual's needs. I can provide comprehensive support for Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, and whether you are interested in practising Mandarin conversation, or need help prepping for an exam, we can work together to create the most effective structure for you. Sophie has been helping me gain an introductory knowledge to Mandarin Chinese. As a total beginner, I found certain aspects like tones and grammar to be difficult but Sophie’s lessons are very well structured and she adapts to my needs as a beginner learner as we continued lessons.
