About Liz
I have 3 years of experience teaching Chinese in Toronto and another 3 years in Shanghai and Hong Kong. As an experienced tutor, I am dedicated to tailoring lessons to meet each student's unique interests and needs. I hold a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from Shanghai Normal University, known as the cradle of teachers in China, and a Master’s degree from City University of Hong Kong. My time in Hong Kong, combined with my passion for language learning, has allowed me to become fluent in Cantonese, enabling me to offer instruction in both Mandarin and Cantonese. With a strong foundation in teaching Chinese as a second language, I am also passionate about integrating Chinese cultural knowledge and interactive methods into my lessons. Perfect! Liz is a fantastic Mandarin teacher. My 9 year old enjoyed their lessons from the beginning. Fantastic engagement with kids!
Perfect! Liz was the first Chinese teacher for our 3 y.o. daughter Nicole. She did a great job at inspiring her and keep engaged during the class and very skillful at handling the child of this age. A few months ago, we connected with Liz to learn some Cantonese in hopes speaking with my girlfriend's grandparents. Liz has been a warm, lively, and focused teacher, and her approach really kept us engaged during our week-night lessons. She taught formally with materials like decks and transcribed conversations, but also allowed conversation to organically guide what we were learning.
Picking up some Cantonese as an English speaker has been a fun challenge and every lesson with Liz made us feel excited and motivated about this little project we'd taken on.
