About Zhang
About Me
Hi, I'm Dara — a university lecturer with over 10 years of teaching experience in China, and a PhD candidate at a QS Top 200 University. Yes, I teach Mandarin, but honestly, I love sharing so much more than just the language.
Learning Chinese with me means you'll also get a window into Chinese culture, the way Chinese people think, and the little nuances that textbooks never quite capture. Understanding the people behind the language makes all the difference — and that's something I genuinely enjoy passing on.
I also have my own Chinese learning platform powered by AI, which all my students get to use for free. Think thousands of picture books, digital exam materials, and an AI tool that gives you instant feedback on your spoken Chinese — so the learning never really stops between our sessions.
I'm patient, dedicated, and I truly care about every single student I work with. Whether you're 7 or 70, a total beginner or exam-bound, we'll find a pace and approach that works for you.
And who knows — if you ever find yourself curious about China, you're always welcome to visit. I'd be happy to show you around.

My Teaching Approach & Methodology
With a background as a university lecturer in China and an ongoing PhD in Finance, I bring both academic rigor and real-world practicality to every Mandarin lesson. My teaching philosophy goes beyond the classroom — I believe real progress happens when learning becomes a daily habit, not just a one-hour session.
Flexible Lesson Options
I offer two lesson formats to suit different needs and schedules:
25-minute sessions — Ideal for young children, quick focused practice, or busy professionals who want consistent short bursts of learning
55-minute sessions — Best for exam preparation, deeper grammar work, or students who want a more comprehensive learning experience each time
My Teaching Method
Every lesson is tailored to the individual. For younger learners, I use storytelling, games, and visual aids to make tones and characters engaging. For teenagers and adults, I focus on structured grammar, exam techniques, and real-life conversation practice that builds confidence efficiently.
A typical lesson follows a clear framework: we open with a review of previous material, move into focused new content, practice through exercises or drills, and close with a summary and homework assignment — all within your chosen time slot.
Exclusive Access to My Own Chinese Learning Platform — Free for All My Students
What truly sets my lessons apart is that every student gets free access to my proprietary Chinese learning software, designed to extend learning well beyond our time together. The platform includes:
Thousands of Chinese picture books — perfect for building vocabulary and reading habits at every age
Digital exam materials covering HSK, YCT and more
️ AI-powered spoken Chinese assessment — students can practice pronunciation anytime and receive instant, objective feedback
This means what we cover in class flows seamlessly into after-class practice. Your child won't stop learning when the lesson ends — they'll have a full learning ecosystem at their fingertips, completely free.
Exams I Cover
I prepare students for the full range of Chinese language examinations: HSK (all levels), YCT, IGCSE Chinese and so on. Every student gets a personalized study plan built around their target exam and timeline.
Who Is This For?
My lessons welcome all ages and all levels — from young children building their very first Mandarin foundation, to teenagers under exam pressure, to working adults seeking fluency for career or daily life. We move at a pace that suits you, with tools that support you around the clock.
