About Luz

My first language is Spanish, I’ve been teaching English as a foreign language to Mexican students for more than 15 years and Spanish to Canadian students for 5 years, so I have some advantages that non-native Spanish speakers have! And I also LOVE teaching. More than a profession, teaching is a hobby and a vocation for me.

About the lesson

I know exactly where English speakers stumble in Spanish,
I can explicitly compare English and Spanish syntax to make complex grammar intuitive for students,
I understand criteria-based marking, rubrics, and high-stakes exam preparation,
I can effortlessly find, select, and integrate authentic Hispanic literature, news, and media into the 5 IB prescribed themes,
I can provide students with genuine cultural context and idiomatic expressions, which helps them score highly on Criterion B (Language) in the Internal Assessment (oral exam),
As a bilingual professional, I understand the psychological journey of language acquisition, allowing students to build a low-anxiety classroom environment.
