About Carlos
Since January 2021, I have been working as a Computer Science tutor on this website. In 2022 and 2023 I worked as a teaching assistant at Passaic County Community College and assisted different STEM classes. In 2024 I worked as a computer science teacher/instructor at a local business known as "Code Ninjas" which was a learning center for kids who were interested in learning how to code (block based and text based coding). In total, I have tutored in the following subjects: C++, Python, Java, Scratch Coding, Microsoft MakeCode Arcade Coding, Basic Algebra, HTML, CSS, Discrete Math 1, JavaScript, Swift, and SQL. From January 2019 to now, I've helped out over 50 students (combining students at my college and students from superprof). After attending several tutoring sessions with me, many of them improved their grades in their programming classes and developed their own big functional projects with my advice. My practical experience has been through the classes I’ve taken at my college and in personal projects I did over the past several years. Most recently in the 2023-2024 years, I’ve created a custom Pong clone called Azetude in JavaScript, my own Frogger game in Python, a game recommendation ML app in Jupyter Notebooks, a chatbot AI app, a Breakout game, and many more projects. I received my Computer Science associate's degree in May 2021 and my Computer Science bachelor's degree in March 2024.

My techniques for tutoring would be: - Let the student show me what they’re trying to work on or improve then I can walk them through it line by line and explain what's going on in their code or math problem. - If a book is available, I can go through it with the student to reference important concepts or examples that will help with homework or projects. - I am happy to use various websites that I use in my own classes in order to teach the student an important programming or math concept. - After the student knows what they’re supposed to do, I will let them do it on their own and if I see anything wrong, I’ll point it out at the end and explain it. - I’ll avoid giving out full answers right away until the student has exhausted all other options.

Carlos tutors my daughter for an upcoming project. He’s very attentive, knowledgeable, and has great communication with us. Happy to have him as her tutor!
Carlos was great with my 13 year old son and helped him with is coding project. His teacher did not provide instructions in class and I was at a loss on how to help him. Carlos was patient and able to find the mistake in the program to make it work perfectly.
Carlos is a great teacher because he really takes the time to make sure you understand the material. He’s very knowledgeable in computer languages. He’s also easy to talk to and personable. I would not have passed my intro to comp sci class without him!

In addition to the normal $20 hourly sessions, as an alternative I also offer $16 hourly tutor sessions ($4 discount per hour) if you pay for 4-5 lessons as a bundle in advance.
