I use popular songs from throughout the history of rock, from Chuck Berry to AC/DC, to Ozzy, to Nirvana, and everything in between as etude studies to teach technique, theory, and scale theory. Most importantly, I get the students playing songs they enjoy within the first lessons and doing it properly with flawless technique and learning the theory behind it as well. My method involves looking at printed transcriptions of songs and learning how to read the music, mostly tablature, but if the student wishes, standard notation as well. This way the student will gain the ability to look at any transcription of any song they might want to learn on their own and be able to read the piece of music. While learning the song, we will also study the compositional techniques used by the songwriter, as well as the techniques used in the production of the tune, so that the student may better understand how to apply those same techniques in their own original music. We will also focus on and learn the technical abilities needed to play these tunes as well as the music theory behind the songs, again, with the ultimate goal being to apply these same new techniques in the student's own music, or to understand these concepts in other songs. When we finish learning a piece of music, not only will the student be able to play the song, but the student's understanding of music as a whole will have increased as well as their technical ability. Each piece of music studied will challenge the student just a little bit more in order to improve their abilities and overall understanding of music.

I'd been wanting to take guitar lessons for a while and am really happy with my progress working with Jared.
It's been fun learning real lead parts through the techniques of different guitarists. Lessons get into both practical aspects- fingering, picking- as well as the musical structures behind their solos.
Jared's been a patient teacher. Scheduling is super easy and flexible, so even as life comes up he's been great about accommodating my schedule.I've been taking lessons with Jared for a little over three years. When I first started I had zero music experience and simply wanted to be able to play guitar along with my favorite songs, yet soon enough I was having so much fun with it that guitar turned into a very real passion. I think guitar finds you at the right time in life. However, I also think it was the right teacher at the right time, because Jared's love for guitar is contagious. Jared is very skilled at guitar as well as extremely knowledgeable. He is also patient and creative in teaching it, as well as invested in his students. He's the kind of teacher who cares. I'm so thankful for these years of learning from him.
Best guitar teacher ever. His insane chops are matched only by his patience, humor and vast knowledge of theory and technique. His lessons are always fun, informational, and super thorough. Book him!
I took classes with Jared for several months before starting music classes at Berklee. Most of the lessons were classic rock etudes and music theory. He'll tailor your lessons to where you are in your playing and where you want to go with it.
Jared is a GREAT teacher. He mixes the right amount of technique and theory making the lessons fun. I love what I am learning and look forward to each training. I highly recommend him, even if you already have a primary instructor, your should for sure pick up some additions lessons with him!
I am grateful for having found Jared (Redd). I have been taking lessons from him for about four years. He's knowledgeable in all things guitar and music theory in general. He's also patient, kind, and encouraging, and has helped me to consistently improve my playing. He's a great guitar player, and most importantly he knows how to teach to get results.
