About Isla
Hello everyone! My name is Isla, and I am currently a Grade 12 student. When I am older, I want to pursue a career in research. Here’s a bit about my backstory: I was not the best student in elementary school, and I made poor choices regarding my grades. However, I have grown a lot since I began high school, and I was able to develop a good study method that helped me go from averaging in the 70s to averaging a 97. I understand what it is like to struggle without help, so I want to offer support to those who are looking to achieve the goal of succeeding.
This summer, I participated in a program called STEAM-Design, where I was given the opportunity to develop a solution to a given problem: how can you expand equitable access to rare genetic therapies? In response to that challenge, I created the GeneLink Foundation alongside my peers, and we were able to develop many valuable skills along the way. To any students who are interested in the health sciences and would like some advice regarding opportunities like this, I can definitely offer some guidance!

As a Grade 12 high school student currently, I am looking to tutor students from the ages of 13-16. I teach by creating lessons that can be explained through regular conversation, as I find that lessons can only be understood when the person that is being taught can actually understand the words being said to them.
The subjects I am most confident in teaching are math and science, but I can also manage essays and help others improve their writing. For science, I mainly teach physics and chemistry, but I can also help teach biology.
I will mainly be teaching online, but I can always set up a meeting at a public library if required. Additionally, I am based in Toronto, Ontario, so my lessons mainly cover the Ontario curriculum.
