About Edward
Born and raised in the north-east of England, Edward studied music at King’s College London, the University of Oxford, the Royal Northern College of Music (with Murray McLachlan and Richard Ormrod) and now reads for a PhD in music at Cambridge University. Alongside his extensive work on solo piano repertoire Edward is developing a strong reputation as a collaborative pianist, winning first prize in the inaugural Williams-Howard Memorial Prize alongside duo partner Georgie Malcolm, and receiving a bursary to attend a week-long masterclass at Dartington Festival on the Art of Song with Joseph Middleton and Mary Bevan. He is a member of the RNCM Songsters, a group of auditioned students selected for specific opportunities in song repertoire. This appointment afforded him the unique opportunity to appear alongside Sir Stephen Hough for a performance of his song cycle And Other Love Songs. Edward is also a keen proponent of early repertoire, often playing harpsichord in Baroque projects at the RNCM, including performances of Handel’s ‘Aminta e Fillide’ and Rameau’s ‘Pygmalion’. He will be a finalist in the upcoming final of the Anthony Lewis Memorial Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, playing solo virginal music by Byrd and Gibbons. Edward’s studies have been generously supported by the Drapers’ Company, the Eric Horner Award, the Headley Trust, the Ogelebsy Charitable Trust, Help Musicians UK and the Duke of Northumberland’s Estate.

Edward is a talented, creative and thoughtful tutor who really works to accommodate each individual student's interests and goals. This is supported by his wide-ranging understanding of various genres and styles. I have worked alongside him in education and performance contexts, and would not hesitate to recommend him to students of any level.
Edd is an inspiring, knowledgeable and patient piano teacher with a real knack for knowing how to help an individual to progress - and to love the piano. Would recommend him without hesitation for students of any level!
I first met Edward as a student and had the privilege of studying piano with him for many years. He is an outstanding pianist and tutor, and I progressed greatly with him through his thorough yet supportive style of teaching. He always encouraged me to challenge my ways of thinking and take a critical approach to the piano, which aided my technical skill as well as my wider understanding of music. Ed is young, enthusiastic and all of his lessons are very engaging. Under Ed, I took part in many public recitals and progressed to ABRSM Grade 8 Piano. He is friendly, caring and always seems dedicated to making sure his students have the best musical experience and education they can. I would highly recommend Edward to anyone looking to learn the piano.
