About Judy

Hello, parents and caregivers. My name is Judy Smith. I have been married for 30 years and have two adult children. My favorite hobbies are gardening and traveling to beautiful beaches. When I am not busy with family, I am working with students, planning lessons, or researching best practices for teaching.

My passion in life is helping others to be positive, confident, and productive in their learning journeys. I have 32 years of experience as an educator and am excited to offer my expertise to a larger range of families. Currently, I am an elementary school librarian in Texas; although, I also have many years of classroom experience in grades ranging from kindergarten through college level. I have also worked as a campus Instructional Strategist, Campus Testing Coordinator, Parent Outreach Coordinator, Literacy Coordinator, State Assessment Scorer, and tutor. Also, I am the founder of Intelli-Coach, Learning Success Coaching. As a certified Wholistic NeuroGrowth Success Coach, I combine an array of services to create and maintain calm, positive, and productive learning to support the success and progress of students both behaviorally and academically.

Specific content areas that I specialize in are: Developmental Reading, Reading (all levels), Writing (all levels), Comprehension (all levels), Math (grades PK-3), Preschool/Kindergarten Readiness, and parenting support.

My goal is that all students will experience reading success through positive, engaging, and targeted instruction.

About the lesson

Reading development requires strong foundational skills. . I start by assessing your child's success at the basic level, utilizing any testing or school results, and determining what specific skills are lacking. From there, I strengthen their learning foundations for long-term success.

A typical lesson might look like:
1. Review of prior teaching through songs, games, and conversations.
2. Introduction and assessment of new skills.
3. Isolated skill practice that is focused and engaging.
4. Context practice that uses the skill in speaking and decodable text.
5. Sight Word introduction and review.
6. Parent review of lesson

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
I am dedicated to fostering a positive learning experience that builds confidence and a love for learning. My individualized instruction and ongoing assessment, along with a customized learning plan will help ensure that each child progresses at their own pace with maximum success. I maintain open communication with parents to share progress and suggest ways to support learning at home.

These lessons are designed for early learners, particularly those in preschool through 2nd grade, or any child needing extra support in phonics and foundational reading skills. Whether your child is just starting to read or looking to strengthen their skills, I’m here to guide them on their journey.

As a Dyslexic student, Emily had such low self-esteem about her reading ability. With Judy, her self-esteem, reading level, and comprehension soared. I am proud to say that she is now getting read to graduate from college in the top 10% of her class.

My son is incredibly shy and only opens up with certain people which is not many! She has broke through to him and he is so comfortable with her again it's a blessing!
