About Brandi
I have been in education for 22 years. I began as a 6th grade Math teacher and quickly transitioned to elementary where I spent the majority of my career. I am passionate about Math and watching students increase their math ability. I strive to show students that Math does not have to be scary. I would hard to tie math to real world experiences in an effort to make it relative to the lives of students.

In a typical lesson on prime and composite numbers, we would start with tiles, or counters or some other object to attempt to make arrays when provide with a number 1-100. If we could make more than one array, we would begin discussing why the number was composite, if we could on make 1 array, we would discuss why the number was prime. We then then move into discussing factors of numbers and how we can use multiplication to determine if a number is prime or composite.

I met Ms. Walker about 18 years ago when we became coworkers at Lakeview Elementary School. We both taught 5th grade at that time. She specialized her post graduate work in Math. She was considered the Math expert on our grade level team. She has a unique way of reaching the most reluctant learners. Over the years, she has been able to bring students who had fallen years behind, up to passing their grade level content as well as the state standardized tests.
