About Lilly-Ann
Good day everyone,
My name is Lilly-Ann van Niekerk, and I am excited for the opportunity to introduce myself and be part of this learning environment.
I have always had a strong passion for helping others learn and grow. Since I was around 10 years old, I have been helping and tutoring children in different subjects, including English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, and Accounting. Over the years, I have developed a love for teaching because I enjoy seeing learners gain confidence, understand difficult concepts, and realize that they are capable of achieving their goals.
One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to communicate comfortably in both English and Afrikaans. Afrikaans is my home language, as I grew up speaking Afrikaans with my family, but I have also been exposed to English from a young age through my father, who is English-speaking. I have traveled to Brazil for many years to visit my father, which has helped me strengthen my English communication skills and become fluent in both languages.
I believe that every learner has a different way of understanding information, and my approach is to be patient, supportive, and adapt my teaching style according to each learner’s needs. I focus not only on helping learners improve academically, but also on building their confidence and encouraging them to believe in themselves.
Through my experiences in customer service, administration, and tutoring, I have developed strong communication skills, responsibility, patience, and the ability to work well with different people. I am currently continuing my studies and building my knowledge in areas such as bookkeeping, finance, and project management, which has strengthened my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
My goal as a tutor is to create a positive and comfortable learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and improve.

I have been tutoring children since I was approximately 10 years old, giving me many years of experience working with learners of different ages and learning abilities. Throughout this time, I have assisted students with subjects including English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, and Accounting.
My years of tutoring have taught me the importance of patience, understanding, and adapting my teaching style to suit each learner. I have experience helping learners improve their understanding of concepts, complete assignments, prepare for tests, and build confidence in their academic abilities.
Teaching Methods
My teaching approach is based on creating a supportive and comfortable learning environment where learners feel confident to ask questions and participate.
My methods include:
Personalised teaching: I adapt lessons according to each learner’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style.
Step-by-step explanations: I break difficult topics into smaller, easier-to-understand sections.
Practical examples: I use real-life examples to help learners understand how concepts apply outside the classroom.
Active participation: I encourage learners to engage, ask questions, explain their thinking, and solve problems independently.
Practice and revision: I use exercises, repetition, and revision techniques to strengthen understanding and memory.
Confidence building: I focus on encouraging learners and helping them develop a positive attitude towards learning.
My goal is not only to help learners improve their marks, but also to help them become more confident, independent, and motivated students.
