About Ava
I'm a biomedical engineering student at Cal Poly SLO with two years of tutoring experience there and two years of tutoring experience back in high school. Almost all of my clients are returners that book weekly appointments with me and I love to develop a relationship with the student to make tutoring a more enjoyable experience for both of us. I let the student guide the learning experience. I don't believe any student is wanting to come to tutoring to be taught the same way they're taught in class -- every brain works differently and I work hard to find the gaps in understanding. A student may think they have no understanding of a concept, but I have been able to find the nooks and crannies of that understanding and it is often one piece of the puzzle that isn't fitting. I'm not here to completely reteach content or tell you your brain just doesn't understand it. I'm hear to use your existing understanding and help you find and fill the gaps to piece everything together. This not only allows you to solve a problem (by using an equation, for example), but understand why the process you're using works to solve the problem (understanding why that equation works) in order to feel completely confident even outside of tutoring.
