About Isabella
My name is Izzy, in my second year of my dream university studying English and Spanish.
But I have a big fat secret to tell you...
My GCSE's were kind of, well, average.
I got a 4 in GCSE English.
Not very impressive right? Hardly something to boast on a Tutoring website and a decision I might even come to regret.
And the reason I didn't get the grades I was predicted, was because I spent my time at school flying under the teacher's radar.
I had clever ideas that I discussed in class, I contributed and could analyse texts but severely struggled with getting it down on paper. I couldn't seem to stay on topic, my sentences would string off and I lacked any sense of structure or chronology in my essays.
The fact was, I had gone through my entire school career and had failed to learn how to write an essay. I enjoyed English the most and wanted to study it at A level. I was shocked and disappointed to learn that, the same school that allowed me to write gibberish, predicted me 7's and kept me in top sets, didn't want me in their 6th form.
I was devastated. Then one kind teacher told my parents I was aloud to go to the 6th form and study English, if I had an English tutor. My English tutor made a bigger impact on my student career than all the teachers in the school combined.
We started from scratch, P.E.E paragraphs when I was 16. It was a bit embarrassing, I was behind all my peers, staying late after class, getting the lowest marks.
Then one day, I got an A on an essay. It was the best feeling in the world, and I proceeded to get an A in the real exam.
In doing so my tutor took me through all of the techniques to hit the assessment objectives from the exam boards. I learned to write for the examiner and all that knowledge that comes with it I have very fresh in my mind.
School wasn't all that long ago. I vividly remember the pressures of being a teenager in the modern world. A lot is being asked from you and sometimes classes become overwhelming, difficult to focus and demotivating, (especially when you're not achieving all you think you can).
I'm here to tell you, you don't need to be an Einstein to get the top grades! You just need to learn a few simple shortcuts.
That's why I'm here to help.
My priorities are to make studying as efficient as possible (so you have more time for the things you love to do), strip away the fear we all have of failure and show you how capable you are with a little guidance.
Whether you're choosing your options for 6th form, or researching universities, life is becoming very exciting and a bit of work right now will become so worth it when it helps you to chase your dreams.

My lessons are designed to break down the fear of the subject. They are targeted at GCSE and A Level students, however I've had plenty of professional experience with younger children and can comfortably adapt my lessons for their needs.
My goal is to make the key content and information as accessible as possible for the child, with a consideration for their learning style. This means I´m not afraid to get silly!
A lesson with me looks different with each child but is based on call and response. I will clearly lay out a lesson objective and set up an opportunity for the child to re-explain the information back to me. It's a method that highlights the parts they get and the things they don't, (which I'll be ready to go over as many times as it takes).
A child-lead lesson is also a beneficial approach. Sometimes I may've prepared a specific topic but if your child wants to modify it to tackle a problem they don´t understand then I focus on what´s most productive for them. If for example they get a test back and want to go through it with me.
I believe discussion elevates a child´s level of understanding, and we´ll come up with all kinds of diagrams and anagrams to consolidate our lessons. These help to condense the information and improve recall skills in tests and exams or can even guide the child with how to answer the question.
I believe the combination of these techniques played a big role in being awarded AAAB at A Level and being accepted into a Russel Group university to pursue these subjects on a higher level.
