About Monik
I am a college music instructor who teaches at home in Victoria,BC and at various schools in the area such as The Victoria Conservatory of Music. Having been a professional musician for 30 years (with a Master's degree in music) I see the value in having music theory knowledge and a strong background in ear training. Two books that I highly recommend on the subject are "The Jazz Chord/Scale Handbook" by Gary Keller and "The Chord Scale Theory and Jazz Harmony" by Barrie Nettles and Richard Graf.

My methods are based on an assessment of the students' goals. If you know what it is you want to learn ie; I want to be a better improviser, or, I want to know how to find the notes in a chord, I can let you know how long it will take and what you will need to do.

A very accomplished alto player, I first encountered Monik by hearing her perform at Hermann's Jazz Club in Victoria. I was introduced to her by her husband who reconditioned my Selmer alto.
Having taken a number of lessons from her, I would highly recommend her. She is very warm and personable, quickly tunes into what you need and provides you with what you need to do to progress from whatever stage happen to be. She will make a great Superprof and you will not be disappointed!Monik has a vast knowledge of jazz theory and a great ability to teach students how to understand and use this in a playing situation.
