About Stefan
I’m an enthusiastic, experienced, and knowledgeable academic, researcher, and lecturer offering private tutoring in economics, political economy, and politics.
I genuinely love teaching. My aim isn't simply to help you memorise theories or prepare for an exam, but to help you understand how ideas work, think critically, build confidence, and achieve the best results you can.
I hold a PhD in Global Political Economy from the University of Bristol and currently work as a Lecturer at the University of the West of England (UWE). I have more than 10 years of experience across academia, research, and teaching, including leading many 1-1 sessions, seminars, and lectures for students.
I believe economics and politics are fascinating because they help us understand some of the biggest questions facing society: Why do economies grow or crash? Why does inequality persist? How do markets and governments interact? Why do political systems change? And how can we respond to challenges such as climate change?
These are subjects that shape our lives and the world around us. I’m fortunate to have built my career around understanding and teaching them, and I’d love to share that enthusiasm with you.
Whether you’re looking to improve your grades, prepare for an exam, understand a difficult topic, develop your essay-writing skills, or simply explore a subject in greater depth, I’ll work with you to make the material clear, engaging and intellectually rewarding.
I look forward to hearing from you!

My goal as your tutor is simple: to help you understand your subject, build your confidence and achieve the best results you can.
Every student is different, so I tailor lessons around your level, goals, syllabus and individual learning needs. Whether you’re preparing for GCSE or A-Level exams, studying economics or politics at university, or undertaking postgraduate research, I’ll adapt my approach to suit you.
I can help across a wide range of economics topics: macro, micro, behavioural, heterodox, and policy. In political economy: history of economic thought, capitalism, crises, ideology, financial systems, state-market relations, etc. And politics: climate change, health and inequality, democracy and populism, etc. I can support you with both qualitative — where I am comfortable supporting interviews, qualitative data analysis and NVIVO — and quantitative methods — including the use of Excel, quantitative data analysis, and SPSS.
How our lessons work:
We can schedule a first 30-minute online meeting to introduce ourselves. After this, lessons are 60 minutes and are designed around what you want to achieve. In our first session, we’ll establish your current level, identify your strengths and areas for improvement, and agree on what we should focus on.
Depending on your needs, lessons might involve:
- GCSE & A-Level: Building a strong understanding of the theories and concepts required for your syllabus through clear explanations, examples, discussion, practice questions and tests.
- Essay writing & coursework: Breaking down difficult questions, developing arguments, improving structure and strengthening your analysis so that you can produce higher-quality work with greater confidence.
- Undergraduate study: Exploring topics in greater depth and using a more critical approach to help you engage with competing theories, academic debates and existing literature.
- Postgraduate study: Supporting your independent research, developing your arguments and helping you navigate complex theoretical and academic material, drawing on my extensive experience as a researcher and lecturer.
Above all, I want lessons to be engaging, supportive and intellectually stimulating. My aim is for you to leave each session not only better prepared, but with a clearer understanding of why the subject matters.

I really enjoyed learning from Stefan. He was a very helpful, kind, and supportive teacher. He was a true expert in economics—especially helpful for assessments in macroeconomics, political economy, trade, and finance. We met in person for some lessons and online for others, and in both cases, he was gracious and supportive. If you need a tutor, I encourage you to choose Stefan!
Stefan is a brilliant, supportive, and knowledgeable teacher! I would very much recommend!
I have worked with Stefan for several years and I would happily recommend him as a tutor. He is a brilliant colleague and teacher, highly knowledgeable and an expert in his field, and a warm, supportive person to work with.
Stefan has the skills to be an excellent tutor. Having supervised his Masters thesis and now his PhD, I have always been impressed by his intellectual ability and the way in which he can explain complex ideas in simple terms. He is very patient and dedicated, all attributes that will serve him well as a tutor.
Stefan enthusiastically shares deep and tremendously valuable insights when drawing upon his wealth of knowledge of Political Economy. He is able to accurately pinpoint gaps in understanding or expertise, filling these clearly and concisely. He's a real asset to anyone looking to improve in this area, and has my wholehearted recommendation.
