About Edward
I specialise in preparing pupils for 11+ and 13+ school entry. I taught English and science at a top London prep school for three years and have been tutoring for far longer. I have helped several children gain entry to highly competitive schools including Godolphin, Westminster and Sherborne.
I try to take the fear out of exams and let children's natural confidence shine through. This is achieved by focussed exam practise and interview preparation. My pupils flourish into confident and articulate young scholars.
I am relaxed in my manner as I’ve found this helps my pupils feel at ease and engage fully with the work being set. I am interested in them and love to find out their interests and hobbies and what makes the tick. I often adapt the work so that it is about a topic which interests them. Therefore, in English we might write a story about skiing or horse riding. In maths we might look at the angles on a football pitch or statistics relating to downloaded pop songs.
While I primarily help children prepare for senior school entry, I love it when clients just want me to help their child love learning. I have helped some pupils to investigate the outdoors, learning about the natural world. To others, I have pushed on their historical passion through extended reading projects and long discussions. One pupil I had was truly passionate about poetry, together we explored English Poetry to a level far beyond her years.
