About Arantxa
I am a Chartered Biologist with a BSc in Biomedicine and an MRes in Applied Marine Science, with over 15 years of professional experience in scientific research, environmental science, microbiology and laboratory management.
My passion for science has taken me far beyond the classroom and laboratory, giving me the opportunity to work in fascinating marine environments around the world, including Mexico, Greece, Bali and Wakatobi, Indonesia.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been working with students during marine conservation and research expeditions, including through Operation Wallacea. I have helped students develop practical scientific skills, particularly underwater coral reef and fish survey techniques, species identification, ecological monitoring and field data collection.
I have also supported university students with their undergraduate dissertations and MRes research projects, helping them develop research questions, understand scientific methodologies, collect and interpret data, and communicate their findings. These experiences have given me a genuine appreciation of how differently people learn and how important patient, individual guidance can be.
Throughout my professional career, I have managed and mentored scientific teams, trained laboratory analysts and contributed to research and environmental investigations. I currently work in environmental regulation, helping to protect and improve rivers, coastal waters and the wider environment.
What makes my approach to tutoring different is that I bring science to life through real experiences. Whether explaining ecosystems through coral reef surveys, microbiology through laboratory investigations or human biology through my biomedical background, I aim to make complex concepts clear, engaging and relevant.

I believe that science becomes much easier and more enjoyable when students truly understand the concepts rather than simply memorising facts.
As a Chartered Biologist with a BSc in Biomedicine, an MRes in Applied Marine Science and extensive professional experience in scientific research and laboratory management, I bring real-world science into my lessons to make learning engaging, relevant and accessible.
My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, learning style and confidence level. Whether you need help understanding a difficult topic, strengthening your scientific foundations or preparing for examinations, my aim is to help you progress at your own pace.
What you can expect from my lessons:
- Clear, step-by-step explanations of challenging Biology and Science topics.
- Interactive learning, using diagrams, practical examples and real-world applications.
- GCSE exam preparation, including past-paper questions, exam techniques and understanding mark schemes.
- Support with homework and revision, helping students develop effective study habits.
- A patient, encouraging approach, where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
- Personalised feedback to identify strengths, address gaps in knowledge and build confidence.
Typical lesson structure (60 minutes):
1. A short review of previous learning and identification of any difficulties.
2. Clear explanations and interactive activities focused on the chosen topic.
3. Practice questions to consolidate understanding and develop exam skills.
4. A brief recap and agreed learning goals for the next session.
Subjects: KS3 Science, GCSE Biology and the Biology component of GCSE Combined Science.
My goal is not only to help students achieve better results but also to inspire curiosity, independent thinking and a genuine interest in science.
Above all, I want students to finish each lesson feeling more confident, capable and motivated to learn.
