My Teaching Method and Techniques:
I believe in creating a student-centered approach that adapts to each individual’s needs, interests, and learning style. Every student learns differently, so I strive to offer a dynamic and engaging learning experience that fosters critical thinking and independent learning. My approach combines traditional and modern methods:
Socratic Dialogue: I ask questions that provoke deep thinking and invite students to engage with the material, encouraging self-reflection and discussion.
Interactive Learning: We will often use multimedia, like videos, audio clips, or digital tools, to enhance comprehension and stimulate interest in literature.
Personalized Resources: I adapt resources (such as reading material, writing exercises, and prompts) based on each student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
Focus on Analysis: We break down themes, symbolism, and character development, encouraging students to not just understand the material but analyze it.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
Introduction (5-10 mins): Brief recap of previous lessons, key concepts, or any homework assignments. I like to create a comfortable space for students to ask questions or discuss any difficulties they might have encountered.
Main Content (20-30 mins): This part of the lesson typically involves:
Reading a passage or chapter from a novel, poem, or play.
Breaking down the text through guided analysis, focusing on literary techniques, themes, and characters.
Discussing the text’s context (historical, cultural, or biographical) to deepen understanding.
Writing Exercise/Discussion (15-20 mins): We might write a short essay, answer discussion questions, or engage in a debate about the text's meaning or its relevance today. Writing practice will focus on structure, argument development, and clarity.
Review & Feedback (5-10 mins): We end with feedback on what went well and what areas can be improved for next time. I’ll also assign homework or reading material for the next session to keep the student engaged.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
Tailored Lessons: I believe every student is unique, so I spend time understanding their specific goals, challenges, and interests. Whether they need help with essay writing, analysis, or general reading comprehension, I customize my approach accordingly.
Passion for Literature: My love for literature isn’t just about teaching it — it’s about sharing my excitement and curiosity about different genres, periods, and authors. I aim to make lessons feel lively and connected to the student’s personal experiences, helping them see literature as something relevant to their lives.
Focused on Critical Thinking: Instead of just preparing students for exams or assignments, I help them build skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom. My goal is for students to approach texts with a critical mind and the ability to formulate their own interpretations.
Who the Lessons Are For:
Middle & High School Students: I help students who are looking to improve their reading, writing, and analytical skills for English Literature classes. Whether it’s a specific assignment, exam prep, or general comprehension, I adapt to each student’s needs.
Undergraduate Students: I can assist students at the college level who are pursuing English Literature, or related fields, providing guidance on essays, research papers, and literary analysis.
Anyone Interested in Literature: Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, my lessons can help anyone who wants to deepen their understanding and appreciation of literature, improve writing skills, or explore new texts.
