About Max
My name is Max Pratts, and film has been a part of my life for over two decades. I come from a filmmaking family, so I grew up on sets, in edit bays, and around storytellers who lived and breathed the craft. I’ve worked both in front of the camera and behind it, giving me a rare, complete understanding of the filmmaking process from every angle. Over the years, I’ve contributed to projects ranging from $200 million studio films to $1,000 independent shoots, and I bring that full spectrum of knowledge directly to my students. My goal as a tutor is to provide professional, grounded, and inspiring guidance. I help students develop their skills with clarity, structure, and hands-on learning, whether they're writing their first script or preparing to direct a film. I’m committed to creating a supportive, creative environment where students can grow their talent and understand how the industry truly works.

I teach filmmaking the way it’s practiced in the real industry, which is through clear fundamentals, hands-on exercises, and practical guidance shaped by my experience directing three feature films and working with top production companies.
I break the process down into writing, shooting, and editing, and show students how these disciplines work together to create a cohesive, emotionally engaging film.
The lesson plan is completely malleable, based on what discipline the student wishes to learn. I start with the core principles and then get progressively more hands-on and specific, guiding the student through real exercises that build skill, confidence, and a professional creative mindset.
My lessons are best for students who aspire to go to film school or students who are bypassing film school and want to learn the craft without that hefty price tag.
