About Grace
My name is Grace, and I am an early literacy tutor with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Development, as well as hands-on experience working in both preschool and first-grade classroom settings. I specialize in supporting young learners as they build foundational reading skills, including phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension.
Through my academic training and practical experience, I have developed a strong understanding of how children learn and develop, and what they need in order to succeed academically and emotionally. In addition to classroom experience, I also have experience working in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which has given me valuable skills in supporting learners who may benefit from additional structure, consistency, or an alternative approach to instruction. I have worked closely with students in both educational and behavioral support roles, including those who require individualized strategies to stay engaged and succeed.
I take a calm, encouraging, and structured approach to tutoring. My goal is always to create a positive learning environment where students feel confident, supported, and motivated to grow. I believe that building trust is essential for learning, especially in early education, and I prioritize making each session both effective and engaging.
I am committed to professionalism, consistency, and clear communication with families. Each lesson is thoughtfully planned to meet the student’s current level while steadily building toward long-term reading success. I take pride in helping students not only improve their literacy skills, but also develop confidence in themselves as learners.

I take a supportive, individualized approach to tutoring that focuses on building both confidence and foundational skills in early literacy. With a background in psychology, human development, and classroom experience in first-grade literacy settings, I understand that every child learns differently. I use a mix of structured instruction and flexible, engaging strategies to meet each student where they are.
My teaching methods are rooted in evidence-based literacy practices, including phonics instruction, guided reading, repetition with variation, and positive reinforcement. I also incorporate multisensory learning techniques when helpful, especially for students who benefit from more movement-based or hands-on learning. I prioritize creating a low-pressure environment where students feel safe making mistakes and building skills at their own pace.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in and review of previously learned skills to reinforce retention. We then move into targeted skill practice—this might include phonics drills, reading short passages, or working on comprehension strategies depending on the student’s level. I often incorporate interactive activities, such as reading games or prompting questions that encourage critical thinking. Each session ends with a brief recap and encouragement, along with optional practice suggestions for continued growth between sessions.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of academic training and hands-on experience working with young children in both educational and behavioral support settings. I have experience adapting instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including those who benefit from additional behavioral or sensory support. This allows me to not only teach reading skills but also support attention, engagement, and confidence in the learning process.
These lessons are best suited for preschool through early elementary students (approximately ages 4–8), particularly those learning early reading skills, phonics, or needing additional literacy support. I also work well with neurodivergent learners or students who benefit from individualized pacing and structured support.
