About Ashli
I am an experienced educator with a professional background in special education, individualized instruction, and academic support. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Family Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Science in Forensic Studies from Stevenson University. My experience as a special education teacher and case manager has given me the opportunity to work with students of varying abilities, learning styles, and academic needs while developing a patient, adaptable, and student-centered approach to teaching.
I take professionalism seriously and strive to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence in their abilities. Rather than simply providing answers, I help students understand the reasoning behind concepts and develop strategies they can use independently. Whether a student needs help mastering a specific subject, improving writing and study skills, preparing for an exam, or becoming more organized and confident academically, I tailor each session to their individual goals.
My educational and professional experiences have also developed strong skills in research, writing, critical thinking, organization, and communicating complex information clearly. Above all, I want students to leave each session feeling more capable than when they started—with a stronger understanding of the material and practical skills they can continue using in the classroom and beyond.

My approach to tutoring is patient, supportive, and highly individualized. I believe students learn best when instruction is adapted to the way they process information rather than expecting every student to learn the same way. Drawing on my experience as a special education teacher and case manager, I break challenging concepts into manageable steps, provide clear explanations and examples, and use different teaching strategies when a concept does not immediately click. I also focus on building confidence and independence so students develop skills they can use beyond our tutoring sessions.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student’s immediate needs, current understanding, and goals. We may review an assignment or previous material, address areas of confusion, work through concepts together, and then practice independently with my guidance as needed. I incorporate organization, study strategies, critical thinking, and executive functioning skills when appropriate so students learn not only the material but also *how to learn* effectively.
What sets me apart is my background in special education and individualized instruction, combined with strong academic experience in writing, research, mathematics, social sciences, and forensic studies. I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities and learning differences, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and executive functioning challenges. I understand that struggling with a subject does not necessarily mean a student is incapable of mastering it—sometimes the material simply needs to be explained differently.
My lessons are appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as college students and adults seeking support in areas that align with my expertise. I am especially well suited for students who benefit from one-on-one attention, additional structure, alternative explanations, academic organization, or a patient environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and working at their own pace.
