I don’t teach students what to think—I teach them how to discover.
I believe every student can succeed in mathematics and the sciences when they are taught in a way that matches how they learn. My goal is not simply to help students complete homework or prepare for an exam, but to build deep understanding, confidence, and genuine curiosity.
Rather than relying on memorization alone, I emphasize conceptual understanding. I encourage students to ask questions, make connections between ideas, and view mistakes as valuable opportunities for learning. Whenever possible, I guide students toward discovering solutions for themselves, helping them become independent learners who can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence.
My teaching method
Every lesson begins by identifying what the student already understands. From there, I build new concepts step by step using clear explanations, diagrams, examples, and guided practice. As students gain confidence, we gradually move toward more challenging and open-ended problems that strengthen reasoning rather than rote calculation.
Depending on the student, I incorporate:
* Visual explanations and intuitive models
* Real-world applications
* Multiple solution strategies
* Guided discovery and problem-solving
* Frequent checks for understanding
* Study skills and test-taking strategies
A typical lesson
A typical session includes:
1. A brief review of previous material.
2. Identification of any misconceptions or difficult concepts.
3. Introduction of new ideas through carefully chosen examples.
4. Guided practice with increasing independence.
5. Application to homework, quizzes, AP-style problems, or enrichment.
6. A short summary and recommendations for continued practice.
What sets me apart
As a practicing high school mathematics and computer science teacher with graduate studies in mathematics education, I understand both the content and how students learn. My experience ranges from helping struggling students rebuild their confidence to challenging highly advanced learners with enrichment, honors, AP, competition mathematics, and accelerated coursework.
My educational philosophy emphasizes the whole student. Academic success comes not only from mastering content, but also from developing perseverance, confidence, effective study habits, and the ability to think critically and independently. I strive to build a supportive relationship with each student while maintaining high expectations and intellectual rigor.
Who my lessons are for
I work with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, including:
* Students needing extra support or remediation
* Students preparing for quizzes, tests, finals, or standardized exams
* Honors and AP students
* Students seeking acceleration or enrichment
* Gifted and mathematically advanced learners
* Homeschooled students
* Students interested in mathematics competitions or STEM careers
Subjects include mathematics at all K–12 levels, physics, computer science, and many other STEM subjects.
