About Callum
I’m Callum, a first-class Law and Politics student at the University of Manchester with over two years of tutoring experience.
One of the biggest advantages I bring to Politics tutoring is that I genuinely enjoy the subject. I follow British and international politics closely, which allows me to go beyond simply teaching the specification and help students understand how the concepts they study operate in the real political world.
I know that A-Level Politics can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are large amounts of content, examples to remember, political thinkers to understand and essays to master. My aim is to break this down into manageable sections and give students a clear strategy for improving their marks.
Every student is different, so I prepare lessons around the individual rather than delivering the same lesson repeatedly. We can work systematically through the specification, target weaker areas, practise essays, improve evaluation or prepare specifically for upcoming mocks and examinations.
I also aim to create lessons where students feel comfortable challenging ideas and expressing their own views. Politics should involve discussion and debate, and some of the best lessons come from exploring different interpretations rather than simply being told what to think.
Above all, my goal is to help students become more confident, independent Politics students who understand both the subject and what examiners expect from them.

My approach to Politics tutoring is centred around understanding rather than simply memorising a textbook. Politics is much easier to succeed in when students understand how institutions, ideas and political events connect, so I use discussion, questioning, real-world examples, retrieval activities and exam practice throughout my lessons.
A typical lesson will combine teaching new content with interactive discussion and regular testing. I particularly enjoy using current and recent political examples to bring topics such as Parliament, the Prime Minister, elections, political parties, the Constitution and US Politics to life. For political ideologies, I focus on helping students understand the key thinkers and disagreements within each ideology rather than just memorising quotations.
Exam technique is also a major focus of my tutoring. I help students develop clear arguments, select relevant evidence, write effective introductions and conclusions, and maintain analysis and evaluation throughout an essay. We regularly plan and answer past-paper questions together, and I provide specific feedback on how answers can be improved.
Lessons are typically one hour long and are individually prepared around the student’s exam board, current ability and goals. I have experience tutoring A-Level Politics, particularly AQA and Edexcel, and my lessons are primarily designed for students aged 16–18.
Whether you are struggling to understand the course, want to improve your essay writing or are already achieving strong grades and want to push towards an A or A*, I will tailor our lessons to what you need.
