I approach tutoring in literacy and reading with a personalized, student-centered method that blends structure with creativity. I understand that each learner has unique strengths and challenges, so I tailor my techniques to fit individual needs and learning styles.
Teaching Method and Techniques:
I use a mix of phonics, comprehension strategies, vocabulary development, and expressive arts to make reading more engaging and memorable. For students struggling with confidence, I incorporate mindfulness and confidence-building exercises to reduce learning anxiety and foster a positive relationship with reading.
A Typical Lesson Time:
1. arm-Up (5 mins):A quick, fun reading-related game or exercise to ease into the session.
2. Skill Focus (20 mins):Targeted practice on a specific literacy skill, like decoding words, summarizing texts, or understanding context clues.
3. Interactive Practice (20 mins):Engaging activities, such as storytelling, role-playing, or art integration, to reinforce the skill in a dynamic way.
4. Reflection and Wrap-Up (5 mins): A short discussion on what was learned, plus setting a small, achievable goal for the next session.
What Sets Me Apart:
My holistic approach incorporates creative elements, such as storytelling, drawing, and movement, to make learning more immersive. My background in expressive arts and therapy allows me to support not only academic growth but also emotional and cognitive development, helping students build resilience and self-belief.
Who the Lessons Are For:
I offer lessons for learners of various ages - from middle school students needing foundational reading support to high school and adult learners looking to strengthen literacy skills. Whether a student is just beginning to read, wants to improve comprehension for academic success, or is learning English as a second language, my adaptable approach meets them where they are.
