About Sadia

Hello! My name is Sadia (Muskan), and I am a passionate educator with over eight years of teaching experience. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education), which has equipped me with strong teaching skills and a deep understanding of social sciences. Throughout my career, I have taught students from diverse academic backgrounds, helping them build confidence, improve their understanding, and achieve excellent results.

I am passionate about teaching Psychology and Sociology because these subjects help us understand human behaviour, society, and the world around us. I enjoy inspiring students to think critically, analyse real-life issues, and apply theoretical knowledge in meaningful ways. My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing students grow in confidence, overcome academic challenges, and reach their full potential. I believe every student can succeed with the right guidance, encouragement, and a supportive learning environment.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in teaching began when I realised that I genuinely enjoyed helping people understand things that initially seemed difficult to them. During my own studies, I often found myself explaining concepts to classmates in simpler ways and using everyday examples to make difficult ideas easier.

My academic journey in Sociology and Social Work developed my interest in understanding people, society, behaviour and the challenges individuals face. This naturally connected with my interest in Psychology, Law and Criminology as well.

Private tutoring became particularly rewarding because every student is different. One student may need help understanding a theory, another may struggle with exam technique, while another may simply need someone to build their confidence. I love being able to personalise my teaching around the individual student.

For me, tutoring is not simply about giving students more notes. It is about helping them reach the point where they can say, “I understand this now, and I can do it myself.”
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach subjects including Sociology, Social Work, Law, Psychology, Criminology and Urdu, and what I love about these subjects is that they are not limited to textbooks — they are connected to real life.

In Sociology, I particularly enjoy discussing education, crime and deviance, social inequality, family, culture, socialisation, gender, ethnicity, social class and the influence of society on our behaviour.

With Psychology and Criminology, I enjoy exploring why people behave in particular ways and how different theories attempt to explain human behaviour. Law is also fascinating because students can connect legal principles with real-life situations and cases.

I also enjoy teaching Urdu, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, comprehension, translation and conversational Urdu.

I don't really have a topic I dislike! Even a topic that seems boring at first can become interesting when we connect it to something the student sees in everyday life. That is one of my favourite parts of teaching — turning “I don't understand this” into “Oh, now I see it!”
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes. I have always admired teachers who made their students feel that their questions were important.

The teachers who inspired me most were not necessarily those who simply knew the most information. They were the ones who could take a complicated idea and explain it in such a simple and memorable way that you wondered why it had ever seemed difficult.

That has strongly influenced the way I teach today. When a student doesn't understand something, I don't believe in simply repeating the same explanation. Sometimes they need a different example, a different approach or simply a little more patience.

I want to be the kind of tutor students remember not only because they improved their grades, but because I helped them believe in their own ability to learn.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs strong subject knowledge, but I believe knowledge alone is not enough.

A tutor needs patience, because every student learns at a different pace. They need empathy, because sometimes a student is struggling with confidence rather than the subject itself. They need adaptability, because the teaching method that works brilliantly for one student may not work for another.

I also believe a good tutor must be a good listener. Before teaching, I want to understand what the student already knows, where they are struggling and what they want to achieve.

Most importantly, students should feel comfortable asking questions. There is no such thing as a “stupid” question in my lessons.

My aim is also to develop independence. I don't want students to rely on me forever. I want to teach them how to think, explain, apply and eventually work independently.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned as both a student and a teacher is that understanding is much more powerful than memorisation.

I remember how easy it was as a student to believe that learning meant remembering a definition exactly as it appeared in a textbook. But I later realised that if someone asked me to explain the same concept in my own words or apply it to a real situation, memorisation alone wasn't enough.

That experience changed the way I teach.

Today, when I introduce a concept, I often ask students:

“Can you explain it in your own words?”
“Can you give me a real-life example?”
“What would happen if the situation changed?”

It is always a rewarding moment when a student stops trying to reproduce a textbook sentence and starts explaining the idea naturally. That is when I know genuine learning has taken place.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges students face in subjects such as Sociology, Psychology, Law and Criminology is dealing with the amount of terminology, theories, studies, concepts and information they need to understand.

However, I think the bigger challenge is learning how to use that knowledge.

A student may know a sociologist's name and theory perfectly but still struggle to explain it, apply it to an example or evaluate it in an examination. Similarly, a Law student may remember a legal principle but find it difficult to apply it to a scenario.

This is why I focus strongly on understanding, application and exam technique. I break complicated ideas into manageable steps, use real-life examples and gradually help students develop their own answers.

The challenge for me as a tutor is making sure that every student receives an approach suited to them. Fortunately, that is also what makes tutoring so interesting and rewarding.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My biggest passion is teaching, but more specifically, I am passionate about helping students discover that they are capable of more than they initially believe.

One of my favourite moments as a tutor is when a student who previously says, “I can't do this,” eventually gives me a strong answer independently. Seeing that change in confidence is incredibly rewarding.

I am also passionate about understanding society and human behaviour. Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Social Work and Law allow us to explore fascinating questions about the world around us.

Why do people behave differently in groups? Why does inequality exist? Why do some people become involved in crime? How does education affect people's opportunities? How do laws influence people's lives?

For me, these aren't simply examination questions. They are questions about the world we live in.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is that I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching.

Every student arrives with different knowledge, strengths, weaknesses, goals and learning preferences. I therefore adapt my lessons to the student rather than expecting every student to adapt to the same teaching style.

My lessons can include clear explanations, discussion, questioning, real-life examples, practice activities, exam-style questions and detailed feedback. I also check understanding throughout the lesson rather than simply talking for an hour and hoping everything has been understood!

Whether a student needs help catching up, preparing for an important examination, improving essay technique, understanding a difficult theory, learning Urdu or simply becoming more confident, I want them to leave every lesson feeling that they have genuinely achieved something.

And perhaps most importantly, I want my students to enjoy learning. A difficult subject becomes much less intimidating when you have the right person guiding you through it.

So, what makes me a Superprof?

Knowledge, patience, personalised teaching and a genuine belief in my students.
