About Janet
For the past three years I have been an executive-function tutor specializing in training students to bolster their executive-function skills. I work with students to help them develop effective studying techniques, focusing on organization and long-term planning, prioritizing, and time-management strategies. Additionally, I work to help students develop self-assessment and self-advocacy strategies, thereby empowering them to put forth their best work with a minimum of stress and anxiety. I have my M.ed in Creative Arts in Learning, and I am also an adjunct professor at Lesley University.
I have taught at the college level for 16+ years and a significant number of my students, when confronted with the task of writing an essay or thesis paper, have little or no experience in how to go about that task. For many the process is overwhelming. Specifically, many struggle to organize their thoughts and articulate their ideas into a logical and persuasive essay. Some students need guidance in understanding the structure of a powerful essay, while others struggle with managing their time and prioritizing their assignments. My goal is to give students strategies and and put systems into place that will help make the reading/writing process more manageable and less stressful. Regardless of the specific issue they are wrestling with, I find that a good part of my effort involves moving them past the idea of just getting a good grade, while engaging them in valuing the process of learning, which I believe is the key to true mastery of the content.
I specialize in helping students get organized, avoid procrastination, solve problems, and study effectively. I love helping students with reading, writing and college applications. I welcome all parent input and feedback and I do my best to return all requests promptly.
I have a M.ed in Creative Arts in Learning and am currently an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University. I have been an executive function tutor for over three years in the metrowest Boston area.

I like to get to know my students academic interests, as well as their personal interests outside the classroom. This helps me determine what kind of approach and strategies will likely be the most successful. At the outset we typically try to assess both strengths and challenges. We work together to set goals, determine strategies, and put systems in place to help the student overcome challenges and become a confident, independent learner.
I work with students from middle school, high school and college who typically struggle with executive function/ organization skills. This often includes active reading skills, writing and editing help, as well as study skills. I have also helped several students with their college application process.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my areas of strength and feel confident in?
What tasks do I typically need assistance with? (be as specific as possible)
What are my goals and what do I hope to accomplish?

My daughter Sophia has been tutored since the 4th grade. Though an intelligent student, Sophia was anxious and overwhelmed in school. We are so incredibly lucky to have found Janet who has been a wonderful tutor for her. Janet has worked tirelessly and enthusiastically with Sophia, and as a result our daughter has become motivated, learned time management and organizational skills, and now believes in herself and her abilities as a learner. We are grateful.
