About Heather
I am a special education major, who will be graduating in one year, and is excited to get into the classroom and start working with my future students.
I have completed part of my pre student teaching at school in a resource room classroom, and worked with a variety of students from ages 9-12. I work at a daycare and have for a year and a half now, in which I have worked with ages 6 weeks-13 years of age, and have worked with a variety of disabilities, such as: Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, add/adhd, emotional disturbances and more.
Throughout my college education I have maintained a 3.7 GPA, and have stayed on the Deans Honor List since my first year.
I am happy to continue my experience by working with children and tutoring them as guide, through their educational journey. I would be happy to work on the phone/computer through any virtual service such as: zoom, google meet, or FaceTime.
My favorite part of working with children is seeing them reach a milestone in their education. Whether that means saying their first word, repeating the alphabet, pointing to a letter when I ask them to show me where it is, writing their first essay, or even completing one math equation. No goal is seen as "small" to me. Every goal, whether it is on a child's IEP, or a goal that they have made with me separately is something I take very seriously, and will constantly try and make a difference in that students life in order to help them achieve that goal.
Working with students, whether in a special education or general education classroom is the most special and best part of the job.
Teaching has been in my family for as long as I have known. Watching both my mother and my grandmother work in a variety of classrooms has influenced me greatly to be the person I am today. However, I am the first in my family who has worked with children with special needs. I have always had a passion for helping people and guiding them through their education. I, as well, go by the strong statement that every student is capable of learning, even if it's at a different pace, or with different styles of learning.
I am majoring in special education and will be graduating with my bachelors in a year from now.
As well, I have completed part of my pre student teaching in which I have worked in a resource room with students ages 9-12. I have also observed and helped out in autism spectrum classrooms with children ages 5-7.
Along with that, I have worked at a daycare for a year and a half now, working with children ages 6 weeks- 13 years, as well as with children with a variety of disabilities.

From the students I've worked with, I start off by getting to know the students preferred style of learning through different activities, worksheets, and just by observing the student.
I usually like to get to know the students likes/dislikes/interests/strengths/ and struggles before we begin our lessons, so I can incorporate items they enjoy into our tutoring.
I have worked with a variety of students throughout my education.
In my first part of pre student teaching I worked in a resource room with students with minor to moderate disabilities, from grades 3rd-5th.
I have observed and helped out in an autism spectrum classroom for a semester, working with children in grades kindergarten-2nd grade. As well, I have helped out and observed in a high school level autism classroom, as well as a self contained classroom with moderate to severe disabilities.
Along with that, I have worked at a daycare for longer than a year now with ages 4 weeks-13 years of age and with a variety of disabilities.
