About Taylor
I am an author/illustrator with 10 years of experience in behavioral intervention and social-emotional development, as a teacher's aid and paraeducator. I use my professional and personal experiences with anxiety to write specifically for children who struggle with panic and behavioral outbursts. I have worked in both alternative and public school environments, and have had great success in helping children be proactive about emotional triggers. I have helped aggressive children become passive, apologetic, and in control. I have helped anxious children step into their power and navigate social relationships with adults and peers. I have found that with emotional support, communication, and mild to moderate work modifications, children with debilitating anxiety and aggression can become successful and confident learners. I will act as a friend and mentor to your student, and will provide both academic and emotional support. My sense of humor and creativity inspire fun lessons that your child will enjoy, while my knowledge of anxiety will help to create structure and routine to help them feel safe and in control.
I enjoy seeing children find inner strength and power through positive interactions and relationships. When they feel that they are an equal part in developing a strong and trusting bonds, we see their confidence build in other arenas such as academia.
I have a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies which involves layered thinking and perspective taking to approach problems with multiple, integrated solutions. I apply this to working with students by holistically approaching concepts in multiple ways for maximum understanding. I also have 10 years of experience in behavioral intervention and social-emotional support. I was a teacher's aid at an alternative school for children with ASD and anxiety. I helped develop and implement curriculum, as well as supported students with academics AND their relationships with peers. I have also worked in the public school system as a behavioral intervention paraeducator. I was assigned to two children who had a history of physical aggression towards their peers. My job involved reading body language to identify triggers for behavioral outbursts, and establishing reward systems for safe and successful school work and interactions. By the time the year was over, one of my students had gone from 19 acts of violence the previous year, to 2 during our time together. The other student's attendance increased drastically, and their academic performance improved.

The most important part of successful learning is relationship building. Your child will not work with me at full capacity until we establish trust and understanding. I will get to know your student's likes and dislikes, strengths and triggers through conversation and schoolwork. Getting to know a new person isn't always easy, especially when behavioral struggles are present, and so good days may be intertwined with difficult ones. But it is in persistence that trust is built- i.e. if your student pushes me away and I still show up, they know I can be trusted. I will also establish reward systems that can be fulfilled by parents, so that successful sessions are encouraged across the board.
I have typically worked with students with low self-esteem and adverse experiences. I have worked with children with Autism, anxiety, and developmental delays. I have worked with illiterate and dyslexic children. I have also worked with children with Oppositional defiant disorder.
