About Soomin
Hi all! Welcome to my page. I hold a Masters Degree in Acting from the American Repertory Theatre Institute at Harvard University, and a BFA in Acting from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. I am extremely familiar with the college admission process as well as the audition process. I have been working in New York doing Theatre, and am currently pursuing Film/TV work in LA.
For students preparing for drama school auditions, I offer help in choosing the right monologue, making sure it shows ranges while highlighting the unique strength of each student. I also work on songs (for schools that require a song) from an acting point of view, and most importantly, being at ease with oneself and exuding natural charisma.
Auditions are such a unique, artificial circumstance that they can easily mess with our heads. I love guiding people through this process with practical skills so that they are able to show 100% of their potential and talent.
I've always loved learning and being in classes, and ended up taking many many hours of training in a classroom setup. When I moved to LA after graduating, I felt I could offer a lot to those who are starting their journey in learning. Private sessions also has a great perk in the amount of attention you are getting.
I have been coaching various levels of students for the past two years. I myself had to prepare college auditions AND grad school auditons (I did grad school auditions two years in a row!), so I'm very much able to relate to the pressure. I have gained deeper insights in the admissions process throughout my years spent in theatre schools, and can't wait to share them with aspiring actors.

I try to get to know the individual strengths of each students, and proceed with a unique strategy to show off their personaities. I typically start with cold readings or a prepared monologue to see where they are and start from there.
I have coached a wide range of students from working actors to high school students with no acting experience.
Actress Jenna Fischer talked about "chemistry" in such a great way in the Sam Jones Podcast. She said that when you are "having chemistry" with an acting partner means that you are having to do the least amount of work to be yourself. I suggest you choose a teacher who puts you at ease and who believes in you, so that you are able to be 1000% of who you are in the process.
The Emmys! Sure, the first half of the show was a bit awkard....Hannah Gadsby definitely stole the show.. I was bummed that Sandra Oh didn't win, but we are definitely making baby steps forward in terms of diversity.

Soomin was very attentive and listened to our needs in preparing for colleges. She suggested great monologues for my daughter and really helped her throughout the entire process. I highly recommend working with her!
