About Serena
I've worked as a tutor for years with various brick and mortar businesses. I was with Kumon Learning Center for three years where I helped students ages 4-17 master math and reading through supplementary learning packets. We emphasized speed, accuracy, and moving past ones own grade level. I then worked for Homework on Wheels where I drove to the home of the student and aided in the completion of their homework. I was teaching across many subjects and grade levels simultaneously, and many of my students reached the achievement of honors after a few months with me.
I mainly assist in daily homework assignments and then provide supplementary teaching when the work is complete. I focus on review to ensure a solid foundation and understanding of the basic principles in each subject. My students typically increase their grades by 2 letters within 4-6 months after tutoring with me at a minimum of 2x/week. I have much success in not only increasing academic confidence but connecting with my students on a personal level to build trust, and see how they learn best. I love what I do.
I have traveled the world, taught children abroad, and worked in many community service projects back home in the U.S. I enjoy connecting with those that I teach and seeing that spark in their eyes when they are excited about learning something new AND getting it.
I am willing to work with your schedule and accommodate you in any way I can. I offer tutoring sessions online and in person at the location of your choice. I have a 2 hour cancellation policy which is much shorter than most. I know how hectic life can get and I honor your need for flexibility.
