About Sophia
I earned a BFA from CalArts in the Fine Arts program. I focused on film, photography, fine art, and political theory.
Since graduating in 2018 I have worked as a digital arts teacher for high schoolers, spent a year as a landscape design assistant, and worked freelance as a writer, publishing a bit for an online magazine called AQNB.
I plan to enter graduate school in the coming years, specializing in film or media studies.
I am pursuing academic research as a career path, so I find teaching to be an excellent way to stay deepen my relationship to materials of study. I am extroverted and warm, and I enjoy the emotional social nature of talking through concepts with students and catering lessons to suit their thinking.
When I was still in high school i volunteered at the YMCA and got really into leading the discussions for a mock legislature program for middle schoolers.
I took a two-semester course in pedagogy, focusing on how to foster creative thinking.
Two summers in a row, I taught digital arts at the California State Summer School for the Arts.
June of 2019 I lead an experimental writing workshop at Navel, an art space in downtown Los Angeles.
