About Elizabeth
Hello!
My name is Elizabeth and I am a 3rd year medical student in New York. I love science! Whether it is chemistry or microbiology I have always been intrigued by how science shapes the world we live in. Becoming a doctor requires quite a bit of studying and I am excited to share the knowledge and study strategies I have acquired over the years with anyone who would be interested. Although I do not have a formal teaching degree, I do have experience tutoring high school biology and chemistry, as well as college level microbiology. I am confident that my bachelor’s degree in biology and my first three years of medical school have given me the knowledge and tools to tutor just about any science based academic subject.
I have research experience in the field of microbiology and pediatric respiratory diseases. In addition, I scored well above the national average on my STEP1 medical boards and have done very well in all of my medical school classes.
I got started tutoring in college during my freshman and sophomore year. I enjoyed tutoring high school students in biology and chemistry. I discovered how much I enjoyed teaching during my junior and senior years of college when I became the microbiology TA. I held weekly review sessions for students and enjoyed seeing my students' understanding of the material grow during each review session. I also provided one-on-one tutoring to students who needed extra assistance in the class.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Lee Univeristy and I am currently a third year medical student. I was a teacher's assistant for microbiology for 2 years at Lee University and I have tutored high school students in both chemistry and biology.

My typical process for working with a new student is to identify any areas of weakness in their studying techniques. It is impossible to maximize a student's academic preformance without identifying areas of weakness in their study strategy. After discussing a students study strategy, I ask the student to explain to me how they feel they would most benefit from a tutoring session. This allows me to use the time we have in the most efficient way possible.
I have worked with high school students, pre-medicine students, health science students and nursing students.
I would say that you have to find a tutor who understands your specific learning style and needs! Hiring a tutor can be expensive and it is important that the time you spend with your tutor is well spent and is effective at helping you improve your knowledge of a subject.
I recently passed my STEP1 exam in medical school and scored higher than I ever imagined that I could. I am very thankful!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should always be assessing their study strategies and how they can be improved. It is helpful for a student to be aware of their learning style before talking with a teacher. This allows teachers to focus on a student's strengths and teach in a way that is specific to the students learning style.
