About Patrick
I care about the academic success of all students. I work hard to build positive relationships with my students by getting to know them, finding out what ways they learn best, and using their strengths to help them learn the content; all while building up their weaknesses into strengths. I make content relevant to students' daily lives.
I have been a public school teacher for three years in North Carolina, and I love every minute of it. I find it rewarding when students are able to make connections with the content, and show me what they're capable of. I teach students test-taking strategies that are effective in improving scores.
A friend of mine told me of job opportunities in education, so I applied to several districts within my area.
I am a public school science teacher in North Carolina, currently certified to teach general science.

On our first day, we spend most of the time, getting to know one another. I have students fill out an Student Information Sheet, with questions about their preferred name, what their post-secondary goals are, and asks them to share some of their interests (favorite foods, tv shows, movie, music, etc). By getting to know my students, it helps me to start building an effective student-teacher relationship, in which, I can use the student's interests to make the content relevant to them.

My advice to students is, you want to hire a tutor who is not only knowledgable, but friendly. If you can't get along with your tutor, you won't be motivated to do the extra work necessary to help you get the grades you want out of your class. Always be respectful, and never be afraid to be honest with your tutors.
